Hidden worlds
My most recent pictures show underwater, microscopic landscapes from streams
and rivers. All are based on the actual composition of samples collected by
myself or colleagues as part of scientific investigations. These pictures
originated in a series of schematic illustrations I did for training courses and
manuals for freshwater ecologists involved with monitoring freshwater quality.
This series of three-dimensional dioramas of the underwater, microscopic world
are, in part, an ongoing "thought experiment" of my own, to try to understand
how the different groups of algae interact in different environments (clean and
polluted) and as a springboard for dialogue with fellow professionals.
The pictures illustrated below are all available as limited edition Giclée prints, 305 x 406 mm (12" x 16") at £40 (unmounted) or £50 (mounted) + £10 postage and packing (UK and EU).
Each of the following pages contains a sequence of images from lakes and rivers in the UK, along with some background information. Some miscellaneous images are included at the end of this page.
